Golf is in full swing this school year. The Timberline girls’ golf team recently played in the Nampa Invite on September 5th and shot 374 overall. Junior, Ella Arnzen, took first place, her second win of the season. The team is excited and motivated, and they have declared “We Own the Night” from the movie “Zombies” as their team spirit song. The Timberline golf team has been a part of the athletic program for many years, and this year’s group is described by Head Coach Todd Simpson as “talented, fun, and competitive.”
“It’s really great to see the kids come together as a team and become a family.” Said Simpson. The social aspect of the team is very important, even though golf is an individual sport. The students on the team find it helps them from getting too in their heads and creates a fun atmosphere at practices. The golf team creates a unique opportunity for kids from different grade levels to come together and play the game. “Golf is such a fun sport to be a part of because you get to meet so many new people”, said sophomore Sydney Simpson. But when it comes to the game, the wolves are prepared to put in the work.
“We are all about the grind and are a super hard working team, here at the course practicing every day,” said Junior Hank Osterberger. The team practices three days a week, but a lot of its members also play during their free time to improve their skills and support the team.
“Teamwork is really important to us because it helps us grow and become better at what we do” Said Junior Ella Arnzen. The team would not be able to thrive if they didn’t have each other to lean on.
The team has already participated in five tournaments and has only two more left before the state tournament in Mountain Home. Before they can participate in the state tournament they have to qualify at the district tournament on September 26th. The wolves are determined to make it to the state tournament and will keep working hard towards their goal.
