On January 25, I had an interview with high school varsity wrestler Cole Clint (Sr.), he opened up about his journey through wrestling. Clint’s dedication and focus help him overcome hard challenges and push through difficult matches. His story shines a light on the perseverance required to succeed in the wrestling world, inspiring both people around him and aspiring athletes in the community.
When talking to him I asked some questions about how he works to succeed in his matches and how he started pursuing this sport. Here is what he said.

My first question was how did you get started in wrestling? Clint then explained to me how his dad got him involved in it around the age of 6 and has continued since then.
We also talked about some of the things as a wrestler he has to do for the sport, for example, for their matches they have to be a specific weight so they wrestle the right person and he said it’s something he struggles to do but overall appreciates.
“I stay motivated during difficult matches by turning off my emotions and really focusing on the next task at hand, I try to act like a machine where I do what I need to do when I need to do it at all costs,” said Clint.
This statement really shows the passion Clint has for wrestling.

We continued talking about the emotional aspects and how he pushes through matches and he really just says he turns it all off to focus on the match.
Coaches play a big role in sports so I asked him how his coach has helped him and what role he plays in Clint’s development as a wrestler.
Clint said, “He plays an important part in setting me up where I can be challenged and be better because of it, helps me when I need it most.”
Lastly, I asked about his proudest moment in wrestling so far in his career.
“My proudest moment… so far in this season, my record has been at its best at 27-4 and I’ve got places I didn’t think I could earlier so overcoming that has been great,” said Clint.
This was a really fun interview and it helped me see what kind of impact wrestling has on someone who really has a passion for it. Seeing Clint’s dedication to doing what he does is truly inspiring.
