The Timberline football team faced off against the Nelson Hawks (OR) at Eagle High School’s football field. On September 5, 2025, the Wolves sought to claim their second win of the season, and they dominantly achieved that goal, winning 43-15. But how did they win in this fashion?
In the first quarter, Sam Haener recorded a huge sack for a loss of yards. On the very next drive, Jack Brant led a nearly 60-yard drive, finishing it with a touchdown pass to Lucas Thompson, putting Timberline ahead 7-0 with 3:38 left on the clock. The defense forced Nelson to punt, and on the following drive, Brant threw a screen pass to Hudson Lewis, who went more than 40 yards after the catch for another touchdown. Timberline led 14-0 with 2:24 left in the first quarter.

Owen Froehlich (Jr.) is waiting for his next defensive stop.
During one of Timberline’s first offensive drives, Brant gets sacked for a loss of 7 with 9:18 left in the second quarter. Timberline responds to the sack that ended their last drive by connecting with another pass from the UC Davis commit Brant to Washington State commit Lewis for their second passing-to-receiving connection of the game. Brant throws a 2-point conversion to the other UC Davis commit, Haener, to put the Wolves up 22-0. Nelson responds with a good drive to lead for a field goal. The score is 22-3 with 5:55 left. The wolves respond again with another Brant touchdown pass to Lewis for their third time of the day, which makes it 29-3 with 1:55 left in the first half. The Hawks return a kickoff all the way for a touchdown to make the score 29-9 after their 2-point conversion is broken up by Fletcher Scudder. Timberline leads another drive that leads to Brant to Lewis for another touchdown, making it 4 touchdowns, and caps off his first half with 7 receptions for 193 yards and 4 touchdowns. That ends the first half with Timberline beating Nelson 36-9.
The third quarter gets underway with not much happening until 1:00 left, when Brant gets sacked by a Nelson defender for a loss of 5. The fourth quarter starts, and Brant leads another drive, where he throws a touchdown to Benton Bates, and that makes Timberline lead 43-9 with 10:57 left in the game. Nelson responds with their quarterback throwing a passing touchdown to their receiver to make it 43-15 with 8:04 left in the game. Nelson then covers for an onside kick and recovers it. Timberline’s defense looks to ice the game off the onside kick recovery and do with back-to-back sacks by Josh Adelman and Hudson Snook with 6:30 left in the game. Timberline, trying to run out the clock, is stopped by Nelson’s defense and is forced to punt, but the returner fumbles it, and it is recovered by Timberline.
Coach Ian Smart calls for Brant to kneel to end the game, leading to a dominant 43-15 win over Nelson, Timberline getting their second win of the season.
