The DTEC program offers great after-school opportunities for students at Timberline and several other high schools in Boise. DTEC is responsible for offering advanced classes and pre-professional programs for high school students. There is a wide variety of options for all types of interests, from welding and carpentry to areas such as medicine and paramedic training.
We had the opportunity to speak with several Timberline students who attend DTEC, and most of them shared very positive opinions. Many highlighted the diversity of programs and the flexibility offered by the center. Students take school buses at specific times that transport them from Timberline to DTEC and return them once their classes are over.
Although Timberline and DTEC are separate institutions, they collaborate to offer students the best possible opportunities for their future. Many of the students participating in DTEC commented that this experience has helped them better understand what they want to study or pursue before they get to college. DTEC gives them the opportunity to explore different options in a safe and motivating environment.
Despite its many positive aspects, we also received some mixed opinions, especially regarding bus schedules and the additional workload involved in being part of DTEC. It is important to be aware of these different points of view because, even though the institution offers excellent opportunities for professional preparation after high school, it also requires greater commitment and effort. This is due to the advanced and professional level at which the programs within DTEC are run.
So, if you are still questioning what to do after high school, DTEC might be for you.
