On Wednesday, October 8th, I talked to Hazel Goetz, a senior outside hitter on our varsity volleyball team. She has been involved in Timberline volleyball for years, so I thought I would ask her a few questions about her volleyball experience. Here’s what she had to say.
I started off asking her, “How long have you been playing volleyball?”
“I started 7th grade because I was told it would be good and wanted to try something new,” said Goetz.
Just going and trying something new can lead to a kind of love that you can never let go.
Nextly, we talked about one of her favorite memories from being on the team.
Goetz said, “My favorite memory is the bus ride to state my sophomore year when we did karaoke.”
Your relationship with your team is super important, whether it be a sports team or coworkers; your relationship will affect how you perform, so having a good bond is truly important.
Following that, we talked about her proudest moment from playing volleyball.

Hazel Goetz (Sr.) hugging Jillian Logan (Fr.).
“My proudest moment is just evolving over the years and seeing the person I have become and seeing how all the hard work and time has paid off,” said Goetz.
Putting in as much effort as she has is really inspiring because it shows how much she really cares about this sport.
Lastly, I asked her how it feels knowing this is her last season of high school volleyball.
Goetz said, “I’m going to miss all the team dinners and team bonding and just playing in the Timberline gym.”
I’ve seen how much she invests in this sport, and it’s motivating knowing how quickly she got into it and decided to put hours and hours into it every day. Goetz is a very hard-hitting and powerful aspect of our team. Playing for Timberline has had such a positive impact on her love for the sport and just overall who she is.
