On Saturday, August 24, Timberline Cross Country placed first at the Jimmy Driscoll Invite at Bishop Kelly High School. Both boys and girls varsity teams won overall with a score of 63 points for the boys, and 49 points for the girls.
Timberline XC has always performed. From winning the state championship last year to breaking school records. There’s not much these athletes can’t accomplish. However, these results are the product of hard work. When asked, one of the top male runners for Timberline; Evan Jones, said, “During the race, I keep myself motivated by thinking about how good it will feel if I finish the race in a certain time and/or placement.” Jones also said, “This season, I’d love to run a 15:30 or maybe even a little below that.” That averages around to a five minute mile! Sasha Livingston; the top female runner for Timberline said, “It would be awesome to break my pr of 18:39 from last year.” These times are impressive, and takes a large amount of hard work and dedication to accomplish them.
While Jones and Livingston helped their team to victory, XC is a team focused sport as well. Livingston; a retired soccer player, said, “The team aspect in XC is definitely different from other sports because you are each looking individually to improve, but we are all working toward the same goal.” She also said, “ I also feel like the XC team has the best team spirit out of any team I have ever been on.”
As Livingston said, XC has an amazing community. For anybody wanting to join XC, Livingston said, “XC is a great thing to try, even if you aren’t sure/don’t love running. You will definitely make friends if you join and meet some great people. Plus, running makes you feel good and it is super fun to watch yourself improve, no matter what level you are!”
