On September 3rd, I got the amazing opportunity to talk to Sala Alrubaye (So.) and Farah Watheq (So.). As school starts, some of your newspaper staff members wanted to recognize a few people who deserve a huge shout-out. Alrubaye and Watheq. Watheq was born on January 13th of 2011, and Alrubaye was born on September 10th of 2009. Now I know you’re most likely thinking, Why are they so important to have a topic specifically on them? Alrubaye and Watheq will be graduating the year of 2026. They have worked so incredibly hard, staying up sleepless nights, taking up to sixteen classes at once, doing things most people would not have the energy to do to graduate early. Alrubaye and Watheq have become some of the girls a lot of people look up to. In their last year of high school, although they did not get to experience the full high school experience, we thought we would take the time to ask them some questions.
To start, I asked her what the biggest thing high school taught them: Alrubaye and Watheq mostly had the same answers and stated not to procrastinate. I then asked What advice would you give your freshman self, knowing what you know now? They both said Keep your grades up high, or else it can ruin your GPA. I asked them if skipping two years of high school makes you feel a certain way? In the long run, it makes me feel very accomplished at the moment, but it’s hard to think about it day by day.
Alrubaye and Watheq are both taking up to sixteen classes, so I wondered what are the hardest things they had to do and have to do to graduate early. This is what they told me: “Balancing online and in-person classes, most of the time it is very draining, and staying up sleepless nights is not the way I thought I would spend my last year of high school.” I lastly asked them who their BIGGEST role model and support was through their 10 years of school, they stated Godard, and Eachtuat Gagalager.
Interviewing them has opened my eyes to how you never know what someone is doing to get to where they are. Alrubaye and Watheq are inspirations.
