Just two weeks before the release of Taylor Swift’s “1989: Taylor’s Version” album, Swift released a different kind of media; “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” movie. Truly, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is unlike any typical movie experience of the modern age, and instead is a sing-along concert right in the theater. It’s not the kind of film where viewers sit down, grab some popcorn, and stay quiet. In fact, the movie is more of a celebration of Taylor Swift and her fans, where everyone is free to sing, dance, and cry along to her hits.
When I walked into the theater, I didn’t quite know what to expect. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to not sing along with the best 50 songs of Swift’s discography, but I certainly couldn’t anticipate that the whole theater would be belting by the end of the film.
The movie begins with Swift’s dramatic entrance onto the stage, where she kicks-off her concert with the Lover era, singing songs from her 2019 “Lover” album. The movie then cycles through sets from all but one of Swift’s albums, and even includes two acoustic surprise songs, where Swift takes the stage with just a guitar and piano, singing songs from her discography that aren’t typically on the setlist. By the end of the show, I was up on my feet dancing, singing, and laughing with my friends.
For dedicated fans like myself, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is more than just a movie. I have tried two separate times now to secure tickets to the live concert “The Eras Tour”, registering a dozen emails in hopes to be added to the queue to snag a ticket. Unfortunately, millions of fans just like me have also been unable to secure tickets due to limited quantity. This movie allowed myself and all the other discouraged Swifties to experience the magic of Taylor Swift even if it was just from the screen of a local theater. Not only that, it proved to me that Swift cares about all of the fans like me, and wanted us to be able to experience the joy that comes with watching her incredible performance. “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” truly was two hours and 50 minutes of fun.
