Art in the Park Celebrates 70 Years of Local Artistry

September marks one of the most exciting events for artists and art enthusiasts alike; Boise Art Museum’s annual Art in the Park. The event is at Julia Davis Park and brings over 200 local artists to showcase and sell their work.

This year’s Art in the Park had a huge turnout, and after 70 years, is a Boise staple. However, Art in the Park isn’t just about traditional fine arts but photography and crafts alike.

The event is a major fundraiser for the Boise Art Museum and every purchase goes to helping the museum continue operations and provide amazing exhibits for local and international artists.

In addition to the visual arts, several musicians and other performers appear in the historic Gene Harris Bandshell throughout the event while food trucks line the event’s border.

The Boise Art Museum is an important part of the Boise community and they need donations to stay afloat, if you missed this year’s Art in the Park, consider becoming a BAM member to get free entry to the Boise Art Museum for a year, and access to member-only receptions or making purchases from the museum’s gift shop.

Hi! I'm Kellen Turner, a sophomore who enjoys stories about society and is taking graphic design at DTEC. I am excited to cover what happens in the Esports program and stuff happening in the school. I like hot chocolate in the summer and believe in the one billion lions.

I am Dylan Wheelwright, a sophomore at Timberline High School. I am from Boise Idaho, but I spend summers in Coeur D'alene, Idaho. I enjoy sports, photography, writing poems, and argumentation. When I came to the Taste of Timberline event, I saw a senior I knew from soccer by the newspaper stand. She told me about the class and she thought I would have a lot of fun. (she was right). She said I would get to photograph and write about a lot of different subjects. I became interested in journalism because I was told it looks good for college, I would get to do a variety of different stories, learn more about the school, and the world of newspapers in general. I am excited to photograph and write for this class. I am a good listener, note taker, have good photography skills, and some writing skills too. I have done many interviews of students and teachers in past classes. I have created good communication and interviewing skills from AVID, and Photo 1&2 has really stepped up my skills for photography. I hope to accomplish many things in newspaper journalism this year. Including meeting new people, getting involved in Timberline activities, learning about journalism, and a lot more! I really love playing tennis for Timberline. I’ve been playing at Timberline for two years, now hopefully three. I love going out and doing activities with my friends, and practicing soccer skills with my younger sister.
