The hike is around a three to four miles round trip, depending on the route. At the top of the trail there is a view of the city and mountains around it. A large cross stands on the summit, which has become one of Boise’s most recognizable landmarks.
Another exciting option is Stack Rock, a large granite rock formation located higher into the Boise mountain. The peak reaches up to 5,895 feet in elevation. The trail head can be found around 30 minutes from downtown along Bogus Basin Road. The hike to Stack Rock is a longer, more challenging hike and is often around 8-10 miles, depending on where you start. However, the hike weaves through forested areas and offers breathtaking views. At the top, hikers can climb onto the large rock to get a better view of the surrounding mountains. Although there are shorter and easier hikes nearby in Camel’s Back Park. The hill is around 3,200 feet in elevation and provides a clear view of downtown Boise. The park is super close and is only a five to 10 minute drive away.
Many people will hike up the hill for sunset views or to hike along more trails along the backside of the hill, and others will enjoy the large grass area and park. Another option is visiting Luck Peak State Park. The reservoir is located about 20 minutes away, and takes you through the Boise river canyon. While it might still be too cold to swim, the area is perfect for picnics, sightseeing, or enjoying the views of the surrounding area.
