As the weather warms up, it’s time for an iced coffee. A Greek Frappe, accidentally invented in Northern Greece in 1957, is a frothed, creamy iced beverage made with instant coffee. Greek Frappes significantly differ from regular iced coffee due to their heavy foam, thick texture, and intense flavor profile. This delicious, easy-to-make drink is a great companion for lazy summer afternoons, weekends on the beach, or paired with a side of cookies.
Recipe type: Beverage
Flavor profile: Rich coffee, notes of honey
Serves: 1
Total time: 5 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp freeze-dried instant coffee
- Sweetener of choice
- 1-2 tbsp cool water
- 1 cup milk or nut milk of choice
Instructions:
- Add the instant coffee and water to a jar. Use an electric mixer or whisk to froth the drink until it triples in volume and becomes light in color. If the mixture is too thick, add more water until it reaches a syrupy consistency.
- If you do not have an electric mixer or whisk, cap the jar and shake vigorously to agitate the coffee.
- Pour the cream you made above into a glass with ice and your choice of milk.
Variations:
- Use coconut water instead of milk for a refreshing coffee cloud americano.
- Put ice cream on top of the drink for a float.
Enjoy as is or customized — it’s your choice!
