Timberline Hockey Club just finished up their season this weekend in Idaho Falls. The team was highly successful this season, only seeming to struggle against the Eagle Rocky team who went on to win the state championship.
Timberline’s team beat Boise 4-1 on February 17th to win city. It was a thrilling game and had a great community turnout. The student section was fired up.
The club celebrates their 25-26 city championship win over Boise.
The team had goals from Colton Tillotson, Gabe Blankenship, Isaiah Unruh, and William Fisher. Lukas Choutka and Tommy Howell had two assists each. Robby McSweeney, Nick Cerchione, and Merrick Rogers all had one. Fletcher Ankeny, the goalie, nearly had a shutout. Boise scored with only 47 seconds left.
At the state championship that Friday, they played Boise again. Timberline dominated with a repeat score from Tuesday, 4-1. They had goals from Howell and Cerchione. Mason Gersack scored twice.
The freshmen had a great first season. Tillotson had a hat trick in his first game, contributing to the 9-1 win over Can-Ada. He had seven goals and nine points. Wyatt Cormier, Porter Wink, James Martin, and Gersack combined for 23 points in all.
The sophomores had a successful year too. Pennington Luangaphay, Elliot Cloud, McSweeney, Choutka, and Unruh totaled 49 points.
The juniors did fantastic this season. Blankenship, Rogers, Fisher, Howell, and Cerchione racked up an impressive 114 points. Fletcher Ankeny spent a lot of time in the net. He did very well and had a high save percentage.
The club only had one senior this year, Kayla Malcuit. She was a goalie. Malcuit was a valued member of the team and a great person to be around.
To wrap it all up, Timberline Hockey Club truly had a great year. Hopefully they can carry this energy into next season.
