On February 26, I got the chance to talk to senior dancer, Sophia Williams (Sr.), and reflect on her career as a dancer at Timberline. Here is an insight into what we talked about.
First, I asked her, “What has being on the dance team taught you over your high school years?”
Williams said, “Being on the dance team over the past four years has taught me persistence and responsibility through showing up when times are hard and always putting my all into the dances.”
Sports really need you to give your all, and clearly, she has been putting in tons and tons of passion.
I then asked her how being a senior had changed the way she leads the team.
“Being a senior has changed the way I have led and supported the team through being able to feel more connected with the underclassmen through our dance families,” said Williams.
Having those upperclassmen leaders is super great to have in a sport. It builds such a good team bond and really helps throughout difficult times.
Lastly, I asked her who her biggest inspiration is in dance.
“My biggest role model over the years, I would have to say my coach Jenn. She’s been the main person throughout my years of dance to push my team, support it, and always knows how to put a smile on our faces even if it’s 6 in the morning at practice,” said Williams.
During this interview, I got a good look at how your teammates and coaches impact your love for your sport. This was a very fun interview with Williams, and I’m so glad I got to see deeper into this sport.
