On November 1st, I had the honor of talking to Brandon Dye (Sr.), a runner on our varsity cross country team. I asked him just a few questions about his running experience, and here’s what he said.
Firstly, I asked him what his favorite memory from running cross country has been.
¨My favorite memory from running cross country definitely has to be when I got to travel to Seattle to run the Nike Twilight Invitational. I was surrounded by amazing teammates and coaches who made the experience extra fun. The race was particularly exhilarating because it was at night and the weather was perfect. It was the best race of my season, which made it that much special,¨ said Dye.

Brandon Dye (Sr.) hustling to the finish line.
Cross-country travels a ton, and having a close group of teammates makes it 100% better.
Nextly, I asked, ¨How has cross country shaped who you are as an athlete and a person?¨
Dye said, ¨Cross-country has made me the most fit I have ever been in my entire life. The team culture is always great because there isn’t any toxicity or negativity from your teammates if you race badly, which has made me appreciate them a ton. I have had the pleasure to work with some awesome coaches who have inspired me to push harder and gain more confidence. This sport has definitely taught me the definition and importance of hard work.¨
Cross country is a very physical and difficult sport, and being able to keep up with all the challenges is truly impressive.
Lastly, I asked him what the hardest part of racing is and how he pushes through.
¨The hardest part about racing is the mental side of it. When you race, your mindset going into and during the race can make or break the outcome,¨ said Dye.
This interview was fascinating, and I couldn’t have picked a better person to talk to. All his answers are truly inspirational and show how much he is dedicated to his sport.
