I’m sure by now most people are aware of the recent government shutdown. This is not only affecting government actions, but also the lives of all the government employees. Military families have been harshly affected by it. Before the recent $130 million anonymous donation intended for military pay, according to The Hill, Democratic Senate members blocked a bill that would have allowed military personnel to receive their pay during the government shutdown. Over the last few days, it has been reported that an anonymous donor has made a $130 million donation with the intention of supporting military pay. Unfortunately, the bill proposed to use the $130 million donation to pay military members and federal employees was blocked.
What about all of the families are are affected by this? Some members haven’t received a paycheck in almost a month, and basic necessities are at risk. Members are still having to work and carry out their duties without pay. When the shutdown is over, the military members will receive back pay for all of the paychecks they’ve missed. That doesn’t disregard how families are being affected right now.
As of today, the shutdown is officially over. Families will receive their normal paycheck on Friday, November 14th, and will receive back pay.
